Controlled by their psychology. It's the Blattids psychological warfare that determines whom the Blattid choose to be their breeding stock.
And what they're trying to breed us into.
I'm thinking that a simple enough to believe "message" to breed into their Pet Humans is the penchant to seek out other humans to kill---but to survive living like it by breeding a lot at home while venturing far and wide to find other humans to kill.
Think about it. (And I should explain many of these ideas more.) First, they're trying to breed them form far away through psychological tricks. Second, they're trying to breed them in a way they can use them against humans; and Blattids know to fight the long war: They're breeding humans that will persitantly hunt down other humans that the Blattids didn't breed. Since simply-enough command to be issued through evolution, they believe, is one for humans to earn to seek out new and novel environments and feel moral clean to kill anyone else there. Like the Sentinelese (kinda funny they have a website and don't even know what a lightbulb is. So glad we havne't killed them off, too). They survive because they won't anyone else they see survive. What a tight-knit and unforgiving community that must be! "Your younger borthers must go avkiing, but you better not deviate far from home and our ideals. These are people who kill unhealthy babies.
