Misc

and other minutia

The inevitable Misc. In fact, I learned early on that if you embrace having a "misc" category for your life and mind, that you coudl organize and the rst of it really well. (Save your energy for what matters)

In the closest of far
And the pitchest of blacks
There forever now lurk fetid beasts
We now know lurk a dardster
That attack in a flash
And leave death that lasts.
We have opened up the heavens
We have looked into the Abyss
And none of us ever dare took our eyes off each other.

O.K., kinda gave up there at the end, but it's not like I ever expected to go anywhere with that. I'm no Tolkien.

Of course there are still books. Real books. Books built to be read and reread for centuries. With pages that turn sumptuously. After all, however humans ebb and flow, we have always been moving to be somewhere more comfortable.

For that may be among the most primal of human drives. And we're getting too good at it. Sure, laugh at me in 100 years at how quaint a life was that I thought comfy enough. But I say that we can't continue as a species being this dumb. This lazy in our thinking---or at least our decision making. Our drives to comfort is like our refined carb diet. Exactly what our ancestors yearned for. And even other animals are getting fat on the vast amount of calories we're releasing into the world.
So yeah, I do see conservatism as definably wanting more than your fair share of comfort.
This is the attempt at the creation of a society built on trying to find the best way and information to make decisions. (Within, of course, the constraint of it being run by Academia.) And it is this that we must as a species do to survive being both the buliders and the residents of a new Epoch on Earth.
And so how to work on it for real.
Somehow enforcing rules based on "compelling evidence" and also being able to decide what that is. Which I guess is what law is...
And the best are those called band. Never written anywhere but known everywhere it was that there wouldn't be a Decider who wasn't well read in band books.
